Occasionally I find myself in a position where I sit back, look around, and honestly, to no higher extent, realize how lucky and blessed I am. These moments of reflection are not planned or pre-meditated and they can happen at any time or any place. One such pondering occurred this past Saturday, July the 4th.
I hope this occurrence is not observed as cliche for its convenient coming to be on a national holiday that is intended for such reflections.
On Friday the 3rd, I made it a point to wake around 6. It was not an unusual morning at all for me except that I had a particularly jolting amount of energy and awareness. Why may you ask?
The bottom line is that Caitlin and I had decided that we wanted to purchase a used canoe and I was going to pick one up. I know whoopdeedoo! Well to me it was and is a big deal. Other than our apartments, Caitlin and I have never shared a larger purchase.
We ended up taking our 16ft fiberglass touring canoe to Kinzua where we spent the whole day paddling down to the infamous “Rattle Snake Bay”, eating, tanning, and paddling back. The whole day was nirvana and I am thankful. See for yourself!
Later that night we drove down to the Dunkirk Pier and watched amazing fireworks.
It was one of the most memorable 4th of July holidays I’ve ever experienced.
We have plans to take the canoe to places like Cassadaga and Presque Isle ASAP!
